Can diet on its own stop bowel cancer growing?

Unfortunately the answer is no. Once a cancer has been diagnosed, the only way it can be cured or slowed down is by having treatment with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biological therapy or a combination of these. There is no research showing that changing your diet will help to stop cancer growing. In colorectal cancer, no alternative treatments have been proven to help either.

You need to talk this over with your surgeon or cancer specialist. There is detailed information about treating bowel cancer in the bowel cancer section of CancerHelp UK. We also have a section about coping with bowel cancer that has suggestions about people who can support you.
