Cancer Research UK is the largest cancer research organisation in the world, outside the USA. We are the European leader in the development of new anti-cancer drugs. We fund research on all aspects of the disease from its causes, to treatment and prevention, education and psychological support for patients.

We are also committed to producing high quality information for people affected by cancer, health professionals and the general public. We do this through our websites CancerHelp UK, News and resources and through our range of health awareness leaflets.

This is a support network for people with thyroid disease. They produce a quarterly newsletter and have a selection of leaflets. It costs £17 to join or £8.50 if you are on a low income (£14/£7 if you pay by standing order). You can download an application form from their website.

This thyroid cancer support group was originally based in the north east of England, but is now a UK wide organisation. It offers information, support and encouragement for people with thyroid cancer. You can talk to others with thyroid cancer through their helpline, by email and telephone contact, or by arranging for a "buddy" to help you through the treatment process.

Hypoparathyroidism UK
This is a self-help group for people with hypoparathyroidism. This can be caused by thyroid surgery and can make it difficult for your body to maintain a normal level of calcium in the blood.

British Thyroid Association
This is an association of specialists dealing with thyroid disease in the UK, including thyroid cancer. The BTA publishes guidelines for the management of thyroid cancer and these are available on this website. The guidelines include information for patients.

National Cancer Institute
This is the American National Cancer Institute's patient information on thyroid cancer. It is detailed and comprehensive but there are no images.

Surviving thyroid cancer
This is a site from a UK thyroid cancer survivor called Ruth Fawcett. Ruth says her site is not medically or scientifically endorsed, but is an account of what happened to her and how it made her feel.

Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association
This is an American organisation of people who have recovered from thyroid cancer. They have an email support network with a number of different discussion groups. The website also has a lot of information about thyroid cancer, although much of it is taken from the NCI thyroid cancer information.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides care and support for people with cancer at every stage of their illness through Macmillan nurses, Macmillan doctors, and a programme of financial help for patients in need. It offers information, advice and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. It has publications about the main types of cancer, treatments and ways of living with cancer. 

There is also a freephone telephone and letter information service, provided by a team of specialist cancer nurses, on all aspects of cancer and treatment. Their benefits advice line offers advice on financial matters generally.
